Residential, Full-Service
The design for this Upper East Side residence began with the need to showcase a growing collection of books for the clients, avid readers, and collectors of books while providing a sequence of spaces that connect the main living and dining area flanked between the foyer and the kitchen. When the compressed entry sequence opens toward sweeping views of the city, an integrated bench seating with an open wall provides a reprieve from featured objects and anchor the light-filled edge with an antique piano. An all-white kitchen offers a counterpoint to multi-layered textures and colors of the open space while maintaining warmth with a jade onyx backsplash that softly glows against the light. The design balances the past and the present by creating forms that complement the antique collections and sourcing materials deeply connected to the clients’ memories while transforming the overall space with clean lines and modern amenities.
